What is season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series about?
Each season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series revolves around the show’s main characters putting on a school musical. In the first season, it was High School Musical: The Musical. In season 2, it was Beauty and the Beast, and in season 3, it was Frozen.
And so, in their final season, it could be assumed that the cast would put on High School Musical 3: Senior Year, but no, the team at Disney have thrown us a curve ball. Instead, the group of seniors discover that the school will be used as a film set again — this time for High School Musical 4: The Reunion, and they all get to be extras.
The show will be jam-packed with other story arcs, like characters Ricky and Gina continuing to explore their budding relationship. Kourtney must make life-altering decisions as she prepares for college, and Ashlyn will embark on a journey to discover her queerdom.
Who is starring in season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series?
Disney+ has confirmed that most of the central High School Musical: The Musical: The Series cast members will return for season 4. This includes Joshua Bassett (Ricky), Sofia Wylie (Gina), Dara Renee (Kourtney), Frankie A. Rodriguez (Carlos), Julia Lester (Ashlyn), Joe Serafini (Sebastian), Kate Reinders (Miss Janne), and season 3 star Liamani Segura (Emmy).

Unfortunately, season 1 and 2 star Olivia Rodrigo won’t return as Nini, as the pop star capitalises on her successful music career. Nini received a proper send-off from the show during season 3.
Will any original High School Musical cast members be in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4?
The fourth season’s fictionalised filming of High School Musical 4 opens the door for a cameo from original HSM stars (we’re hoping for appearances from Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale).
Disney has confirmed that six original HSM stars are joining High School Musical: The Musical: The Series for season 4. The stars set to return to East High include Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Bart Johnson, Alyson Reed and KayCee Stroh. These returning stars will play both themselves shooting High School Musical: The Reunion and also their characters who they will act as in the mock film.
