After seemingly getting ‘caught’ waking up in bed together on Wednesday night’s episode of The Block NZ: Girls vs Boys, Block-a-holics were left wondering whether single contestants Sam Cable and Emma Diamond had found love on the hit DIY show.

It certainly seemed like sparks were flying between the duo, but the rumoured lovebirds have now revealed that their ‘hook-up’ was simply a prank that went too far.

“It was a group idea, we were all in on it,” Emma tells Woman’s Day.

“It was very much a team effort, and one which definitely backfired on us,” Sam adds, confirming that their fellow Block contestants were all in on the joke.

“There’s been no moves made on Emma at all, nor has there been on any other cast members. [I’m] very much still single, as is Emma,” says Sam.

While there’s no doubt the pranksters have a close bond, they both firmly deny the possibility of any real romance blooming in the future.

“Sam and I, we’re like brother and sister. We get along really well but it won’t be anything more than that – sorry Sam,” Emma quips.

The pair made sure to clear up the misunderstanding on tonight’s episode, but earlier in the week, it was a different story.

“My friends and family were quite shocked, because I didn’t feel the need to fill them in on a prank we’d pulled. I didn’t realise it would get so much attention,” Emma confesses.

Meanwhile, Sam admits to feeling “slightly guilty” now that they’ve set the record straight, revealing he received “a lot of lovely messages from fans” after their prank aired on screen.

Despite no real romance brewing at Block HQ, there’s sure to be plenty of drama still ahead as the teams continue to work around the clock to get their houses auction day-ready. Luckily, the teams have each other to rely on when the going gets tough.

“Everyone’s really tired as you can expect,” says Emma, “so you’ve just got to push through and we all support each other through that.”

The Block NZ: Girls vs Boys airs Sunday nights at 7:00pm and Monday-Wednesday at 7:30pm on TV3
