They burst onto the scene last week fresh and full of energy, but My Kitchen Rules gatecrashers Ben and Reegan were gone as quickly as they arrived last night.
In an intense double elimination, both the Auckland flatties and country sisters Kimberley & Brooke were sent home after the competition’s first Sudden Death Cook-Off.
Sentenced to Sudden Death after their first challenge at Britomart, the judges were keen to see what Ben & Reagan could bring to the kitchen. The lads knew they had to go all-out, but struck problems almost immediately when Ben sliced his finger open with a mandolin, leaving Reagan to soldier on solo while Ben received medical attention.
Elements of the boys’ meal had the judges singing their praises. The lamb rack’s cumin and pistachio crust was so good it had Grace Ramirez asking for the recipe. But it was poor presentation and lack of seasoning that saw the boys join Kimberley and Brooke in the bottom two, ending their short time in the competition.
“It’s been a few tough days back to back,” says Reagan. “But we’ve had a lot of fun.”
“There are some great cooks here and we’re really excited to see how the rest of the competition goes for them,” adds Ben.
Tonight on MKR NZ, it’s People’s Choice challenge number two where teams cook for a tough crowd of rugby players. Who can kick it out of the park and who will be sent to the sin bin of Sudden Death?
