Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have their sights set upon the idyllic Cotswolds village of Great Tew according to new reports, which suggests that the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex are building a manor house set in 13 acres of land.

The planned six bedroom property (which will also boast three reception rooms and staff quarters, naturally) is being built upon the site of dilapidated farm buildings, according to the Daily Mail, and is known locally as Beggars Lodge.

Computer generated drawings of the estate by a local designer have been posted on the website for West Oxfordshire District Council, giving us a better idea of what the finished property might look like. It’s thought that the site was sold to an unnamed buyer back in November, shortly after the couple became engaged.

“The property has been earmarked for a specific couple and the project is shrouded in secrecy, so naturally the assumption in the village is that Meghan and Harry might move in,” a local source told the Daily Mail.

“The property will take at least a year to build, which would explain why they are renting in the area for that amount of time.” Indeed, it was recently reported that the couple had signed a lease on Westfield Large, another cottage on the Great Tew estate, while their next Kensington Palace residence is refurbished.

The news is yet to be confirmed by Kensington Palace, but rumours that the couple might move to Great Tew have been surfacing for months. Back in January, The Sun suggested that the couple have their eyes on Beaconsfield Farm, a run-down farm house built on the site of an old Roman villa in the same village, which is about five miles from Chipping Norton.

Should Harry and Meghan choose to make the move, they could count David and Victoria Beckham among their near(ish) neighbours: the power couple bought a £5 million (NZD$9.5 million) barn house early last year, and have since been carrying out renovations on the property.

The property is also a short jaunt from celebrity hangout Soho Farmhouse, which Harry and Meghan are thought to have visited a handful of times in the formative stages of their relationship.

The couple currently live at Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, the two-bedroom property where Harry’s older brother William and his wife Kate moved after their 2011 wedding, staying there until the arrival of their first child Prince George in 2013.
