Princess Charlotte celebrates her 11th birthday

From pretty dresses to jeans and a jersey, Charlotte is growing up!

She’s just turned 11, but seems so very grown up! Princess Charlotte celebrated her birthday in private last week with her family, but her parents publicly marked the occasion with a new photo that shows her looking much closer to her teen years than she actually is.

It seems like no time at all since the Prince and Princess of Wales’ only daughter was smiling shyly and wearing a sweet dress for the annual photo. The latest image, in which she’s wearing jeans, sporting blue nail polish and grinning widely, reinforces her reputation as one of the spirited members of the royal family.

A strong personality from the start

According to her father William, 43, when she was only six, she’d tell people she was 16, and she’s known in the family as “Little Miss Bossy”. Her mother, Princess Catherine, 44, once told a member of the public that Charlotte was in charge of their household. Friends from her pre-school nicknamed her “Warrior Princess”.

The birthday photo was accompanied by a short video shot during the Wales family’s Easter holiday in Cornwall. It shows Charlotte on a boat with pet dogs Orla and Otto, using pebbles to write “I heart U” on a beach, and bowling a cricket ball with great vigour.

A natural on the sports field

The sporty youngster shows a lot of promise, with former England captain Mike Atherton describing her bowling technique as “decent”. Charlotte – who looks like her dad and also bears a strong resemblance to her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II – is a big fan of outdoor activities like her mum, dad, and brothers Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, eight.

William and Catherine further made the point about how important spending time outdoors together is when they posted a photo, taken on the same Cornish holiday, of the family lying on the grass to commemorate their 15th wedding anniversary on April 29.
