Is there a trick to not burning the sticks under the grill?

The kids are going through a kebab phase at the moment and I’m able to trick them into eating anything (even broccoli), providing it’s on a kebab stick. But is there a trick to not burning the sticks under the grill?

There is an easy solution to the blackened sticks. Soak the skewers in water for 30 minutes or more before you assemble your kebabs. If you’re going through a lot of them (and it sounds like that may be the case), try soaking a big batch and freezing them, so you always have some on hand.
