As Kim Kardashian has retreated from the public spotlight following her terrifying armed robbery ordeal in Paris last month, her husband Kanye West has struggled to cope, according to sources close to the couple.
Kanye, who was hospitalised after a reported breakdown on Monday afternoon (US time), “is totally wiped out from touring and just can’t handle it emotionally,” an insider told People.
While the ‘Famous’ rapper is used to counting on his reality star wife for support, since her robbery, their marriage has been put under extra strain, according to the source.
“Kim [was] usually the more stable and strong person in the marriage,” People’s source reveals.
“Kanye is used to leaning on her. Since Kim has had her own issues to deal with, the roles have been reversed. Kanye has had to stay strong to support Kim, and it’s like he can’t handle it anymore.
“It’s like Kanye is falling apart now, because Kim hasn’t been able to give him her full attention.”
Kanye’s hectic touring schedule has also put more pressure on the couple, according to the insider.
“Their lives have been quite chaotic. It’s been very trying for them both and not a good recipe for a happy marriage.”
It was reported yesterday that Kanye’s personal physician Dr Michael Farzam made the 911 call that saw Kanye transported to hospital, saying he was behaving “erratically”.
TMZ reports that Kanye was at the home of his trainer Harley Pasternak at around 1:20 pm local time when paramedics arrived. According to the media outlet, Dr Farzam told police that his patient’s name was “Jim Jones” and that he suffered from “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration”.
According to TMZ, the doctor told police he had placed Kanye on a 5150 psychiatric hold, which allows officials to restrain someone who could be a danger to themselves or others. However, the media outlet also reports that there was an issue over whether or not Dr Farzam had actually placed Kanye on a 5150 hold.
When the paramedics showed up at the house, Kanye was reportedly still reluctant to go to the hospital, but was persuaded by his management and law enforcement. During transport, he was handcuffed to a stretcher, which is said to be standard protocol.
Hours after his hospitalisation, Kim flew to Los Angeles to by her husband’s side. The reality star had been due to make her first public appearance since the robbery at New York’s Angel Ball, which was honouring her late father Robert Kardashian, but skipped the event to support Kanye.
Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner followed Kim to Los Angeles after staying behind to attend the Angel Ball.
Since Kanye’s hospitalisation, several close pals and collaborators have spoken out in support of the embattled rapper, with singer John Legend revealing he saw the signs before the breakdown.
“We were with Kim actually, you know, right before all of that,” he revealed in an interview with CBS This Morning on Tuesday.
“I was concerned by what I saw, so hopefully he’s getting some rest and some time to figure things out.”
It was announced earlier this week that Kanye had cancelled all remaining dates on his Saint Pablo tour, which had been due to continue throughout the rest of the year.
