As Britney Spears inches closer to wedding number four, her loved ones have mounting fears over her potential husband-to-be Paul Soliz, a convicted felon, who has been described as a “deadbeat dad” to nine kids.
Britney, 42, is rumoured to be ready to walk down the aisle again with Paul now that his estranged wife Nicole Mancilla has filed for divorce. Britney’s own divorce, from Sam Asghari, was finalised in May.
“Britney has a long history of picking love interests and just hangers-on who are bad news,” says a source close to the Toxic singer. “Besides his criminal record, he is by all accounts not a stable presence in her life. It’s clear Britney is in a lonely, vulnerable place and Paul is capitalising on that.
The ultimate worry now he’s divorcing his wife is that Britney might marry him.”
Friends of the musician have confirmed the singer is indeed eagerly awaiting a proposal from Paul, 38, whom she met when he was hired for some handyman work around her Los Angeles mansion in 2022.
Britney started dating him after announcing her split from Sam, 30, last August. It was around the same time that Paul faced a court hearing for allegedly violating probation terms connected to a firearms conviction. Paul has also faced charges of child endangerment and disturbing the peace.
The two had notoriously caused chaos at famed LA hotel Chateau Marmont in May. They got into a fight, which ended with Britney in tears and nursing an injured leg.
In July, the popstar took to Instagram to share she was single and will “never be with another man”. In a bizarre recent post, she posed in a bridal dress and reminisced about “the day I married myself”.
However, paparazzi snapped her joyously jumping around a trampoline park with Paul and his kids in August. People say he and three of his children have now shacked up with Britney at her home.
Nicole has alleged that Paul “took” the kids and is a “deadbeat dad” who refuses to pay child support. As part of their divorce negotiation, she is seeking custody of their five youngest children.
But Britney – a mum to Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18, from her marriage to Kevin Federline – isn’t letting that stop her from enjoying time with Paul and his kids.
“She really enjoys having youngsters around her again and she’s welcomed Paul’s ready-made family into her life,” says a source. “With everything she has been through, she sees this as a fresh start. She’s 100% hoping he’ll pop the question.”
Family and friends aren’t the only ones concerned for the Piece Of Me singer. An insider says her assistants don’t want Paul around, while her own management team fears he’ll do “something shady”.
Fans have also expressed their concern. One wrote on Instagram, “It’s like trying to talk sense into your best friend who keeps letting that loser ex back into her life. She keeps getting her heart stomped on and used. You want to say, ‘When is enough going to be enough? You know better!’”
