The eight-year-old niece of Britney Spears is in a serious condition after a terrifying quad bike accident left her unconscious.
According to TMZ, the daughter of Britney Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, was seriously injured on Sunday, February 5.
Maddie Aldridge, 8, was a passenger on a Polaris off-roading vehicle when it flipped over into a pond while on a hunting expedition in Kentwood, Louisiana.
It is reported that Maddie was underwater for several minutes before being dragged unconscious to dry land.
She was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital.
It is reported that Jamie, who had Maddie when she was 17 with ex-boyfriend Casey Aldridge, was not present at the time of the incident.
Suggesting the seriousness of the eight-year-old’s condition, Jamie Lynn’s dad, Jamie Spears, has begged fans to do their bit and pray for the recovery of little Maddie.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight he said, “All I can say is pray for our baby Maddie.”
On Twitter earlier today, Britney broke her silence about her niece as she asked fans to send “all the wishes and prayers” for little Maddie.
A rep for the 35-year-old popstar also told Entertainment Tonight, “The details the media are reporting surrounding the incident regarding Jamie Lynn’s daughter Maddie are incorrect.”
They added, “Right now the Spears family asks that everyone respect their privacy during this time and appreciates all the prayers and support for their family.”
Last year, Jamie Lynn opened up about falling pregnant when she was just a teenager.
“When I became pregnant my world came crashing down,” she confessed on her show Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out.
“I look back now and I am like ‘Oh my gosh.’ I knew I had a lot of young girls who looked up to me and I felt that responsibility but at the end of the day I knew i would have to make a decision as a young girl myself, to do something that I could sleep with at night,” she recalled.
Britney’s younger sister soon made peace with her pregnancy and admitted she couldn’t imagine her life without her daughter.
“I knew deep down that I was going to have my little girl, even if I had to raise her on my own, which is what I did,” she said.
Our thoughts are with the Spears Family during this difficult time.
