Billy Bob Thornton has spoken out about his marriage to Angelina Jolie, and has revealed the pairs’ vastly different lifestyles and interests often left him feeling inadequate.

Billy Bob told GQ he struggled with some difficult feelings during their intense, although short-lived, marriage.

“I never felt good enough for her,” the 61-year-old actor claimed.

The duo, who married in 2000 after meeting on the set of the 1999 movie Pushing Tim, officially divorced in 2003.

Billy Bob said at the root of it, he was basically a homebody – he liked relaxing at home watching sports – but Angelina, who was intensely involved with the United Nations, preferred to move in other circles.

The actor revealed he felt out of place attending high-profile red carpet events and was “real uncomfortable around rich and important people”.

Somewhat known for his up-front attitude, Billy Bob admitted he wasn’t ashamed of his stance on not wanting to mingle with Hollywood’s hoi polloi.

“I like how I am,” he said.

Angelina is currently in the midst of high-profile divorce proceedings from her second husband, actor Brad Pitt.

The pair divorced three months after Angelina adopted her first child Maddox from Cambodia.

The pair still have a good bond, Billy Bob said, and make an effort to stay in touch with each other every few months – or when their busy schedules allow.

Billy Bob is now married to long-time partner and mother to his 12-year-old daughter, Connie Angland.

She might be wife number six but the actor explains he didn’t marry her until after many years of dating because he wanted her to feel like more than just a number.
