As a top chef, restaurant owner and TV star, Gordon Ramsay spends much of his time jetting around the world trying weird and wonderful new taste sensations.
But the Hell’s Kitchen star has revealed there’s one thing he will never, ever do while travelling – eat food on planes.
Ramsay, 50, made the revelation to website Refinery 29 – and it’s even more surprising, considering he owns a restaurant in Heathrow Airport’s busy Terminal 5 called Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food, and spent time working as a culinary adviser for Singapore Airlines.
“”There’s no f—ing way I eat on planes,” he said.
“I worked for airlines for 10 years, so I know where this food’s been and where it goes, and how long it took before it got on board.”
His fairly simple solution to avoid getting hungry while thousands of metres in the air? Eat a “light” snack before you board.
“A nice selection of Italian meats, a little glass of red wines, some sliced apples or pears with some parmesan cheese, I’m like a pig in s—,” he said.
Ramsay is no stranger to saying outrageous things, but just this week he made headlines after a shocking on-set “accident”.
During an appearance on a UK late night show, Ramsay pretended to chop his fingers off after putting them in a blender. He was of course fine, but the audience members are possibly still recovering.
