24 hours in Auckland for business

Wellington-based Group Media Partner Steve Dimakis is always on the move. From aeroplanes and shuttles to hotels and offices, he’s never in one place for long – that’s why it’s important he stays at a hotel that makes business travel easy.

As one of the partners at Strategy, I need to travel to Auckland for meetings every week. We have studios in Wellington, Christchurch, Sydney and Tokyo. I’m responsible for the media side of the business, so my team and I have to make sure we’re looking after our clients, and that the teams on the ground in each of our cities have everything they need to be successful.

At the start of a typical 24 hours in Auckland, I like to get to the hotel nice and early to drop off my luggage. I read through my emails and check in with the team to ensure we’re prepared.

The proximity of Cordis is fantastic. It allows me to easily head down to visit not only our team in the city studio, but to meet with clients and suppliers around Auckland – and bring them into the hotel’s business centre for meetings.

Being able to use the hotel’s shuttle service, which can take me to downtown Auckland, makes life very easy.

At the end of a long day, I appreciate staying in a hotel like Cordis, where I can really rest and unwind. It’s good to be able to get on a treadmill in the evening and knock out some Ks, and use one of the hotel’s e-bikes to get in some exercise.

Being out in the fresh air is great too – it helps clear the mind. Water helps with my creativity, so being able to go for a swim in the morning in the Cordis pool definitely gets the creative juices flowing for later on.

At Strategy we’re working in an ever-changing space, especially in the media landscape with the way people move so quickly between the channels they’re consuming content on, so we have to do a lot of research and a lot of processing information. Having access to facilities like those at Cordis that allow my mind to clear even while I’m focusing on my work is fantastic.
