Back at the helm of Britain’s Got Talent for its 10th season, the tough-talking judge once hailed as TV’s “Mr Nasty” has gone, dare we say it, soft.
“I see clips from the earlier shows sometimes and I’m like, ‘Maybe I was a little bit hard on those people!’” he says.
For Simon (56), though, there’s a good reason for his change of heart.
Since the show first aired in 2007, he’s settled down with partner Lauren Silverman (38) and has become a father to two-year-old Eric.

Now leading a judging panel in its third incarnation – former judges have included Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and editor Piers Morgan – Simon says the show’s never been better.
While he’s adamant he’ll remain behind his buzzer for season 10, Simon says he has been inspired by this year’s acts and has noticed somewhat of a trend for magic acts.
So what would be his signature trick?
“I’d make someone disappear for a while,” he says. “Just to have that ability to go, ‘Do you know what? Just disappear for five minutes,’ and do it. Or maybe 10 minutes…”
