In a stunning attack against the Academy of ootion Picture Arts & Sciences (and women in general), Sigourney Weaver has spoken about her outrage at James Cameron’s loss in the Best Director category for ‘Avatar’ at this year’s oscar ceremony.
The actress believes the only reason James lost out to his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow (who won for war drama ‘The Hurt Locker’) was because the Academy wanted to make history by naming its first ever female Best Director.
Sigourney fumes, “Jim didn’t have breasts and I think that was the reason. He should have taken home that oscar.” She continues, “In the past, ‘Avatar’ would have won because [Academy voters] loved to hand out awards to big productions like ‘Ben-Hur’. Today it’s fashionable to give the oscar to a small movie that nobody saw.”
‘Avatar’ is the highest-grossing film ever, having taken in $3.8 billion worldwide, whereas ‘The Hurt Locker’ has so far grossed only $56 million, which makes it the least seen Best Picture winner of all time.
