Shortland Street comeback star Lynette Forday has seen plenty of change in her personal life since she quit the soap 16 years ago.
When she left Ferndale in 1997, Lynette was a single career woman, just like her on-screen character Grace Kwan. Since then, the trained pilates instructor has had a daughter, Lucia (7), got married to Lucia’s father six years ago, and become stepmum to his three other children.
The busy mother of four spends her days dashing between filming scenes and running Lucia to piano and ballet lessons – and she could not be more fulfilled.
When Lynette returned to the hit TV2 show in October this year, she couldn’t believe the drama that was in store for Grace. And as the sassy doctor starts planning to become a mum through artificial insemination this week, Lynette says her character doesn’t know what she’s letting herself in for.
“I guess [she’s] like me,” she says. “I was the complete career woman, then suddenly I had children coming out of my ears and it was such a shock to the system. I have never had to work so hard in my life than I have as a parent.”
When Lynette was younger, friends called her the world’s most un-maternal person.
“This is almost God’s joke on me, but I do love it,” she says.
