She battled colon cancer in 2002 and now a decade later Sharon Osbourne is taking no chances of getting cancer again.

The reality TV star, who recently turned 60, revealed she has undergone a double mastectomy after she discovered she carried the breast cancer gene.

“As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought, ‘The odds are not in my favour’,” Sharon told Hello! magazine.

Sharon’s son Jack and his wife Lisa were important for Sharon.

Sharon says her decision to undergo the 13-hour operation, despite not being diagnosed with breast cancer, was a “no brainer” and the birth of her son’s daughter earlier this was a big part of her decision.

“I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl. I didn’t even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way, I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time,” she says.

It’s been a rollercoaster year for Sharon – after becoming a grandmother for the first time, Sharon learned a few weeks later that her son Jack had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Last month, Jack and his fiancée Lisa Stelly tied the knot in a ceremony in Hawaii.
