Robin Williams claims he needs a “steady job”, because two divorces have left him short of cash. The film star has accepted a role on new TV show The Crazy Ones, after divorces from Valerie Velardi and Marsha Garces cost him $38 million in alimony payments. The 62-year-old, who is now married to graphic designer Susan Schneider has not worked in TV since staring in Mork & Mindy in the 1980s. “Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it “all the money”, but they changed it to ‘alimony’”, said Robin in a recent interview.
“It’s ripping your heart out through your wallet.”
After his film career stopped paying the bills, Robin, who plays a charismatic advertising man in the new CBS series, says because of his financial situation he had two choices – return to stand-up comedy, or return to TV.
“The movies are good, but a lot of times they don’t even have distribution. There are bills to pay. My life has downsized, in a good way. I’m selling the ranch up in Napa… I just can’t afford it anymore.”
