NZ’s Got Talent: Our journey isn’t over

They put their life on hold for a shot at winning the show, but the dance duo has no regrets in second place.

With huge smiles on their faces, it’s clear that husband and wife dance duo Kate and Lei’ataua Limuloa aren’t too disappointed about coming second in the latest season of New Zealand’s Got Talent.

In fact, the Christchurch couple were so committed to reaching the finals of the TV One show that they delayed trying for another baby.

“I love being a mum, I love being pregnant, and I couldn’t wait to have another one,” Kate says.

“But this year we became really busy – especially with the show, so we had to put our plans on hold.”

Desperate for another child, Kate was extremely clucky and even cried when judge Cris Judd brought his newborn baby girl on set for the taping of the finals.

“I just want another baby so badly,” Kate adds.

The dancers, who are parents to two gorgeous sons Nukumovaha’I (5) and three-year-old Tavatualau, are shocked to have made it so far in the competition when they’ve only been dancing together since the beginning of this year.

Calling themselves Silhouette and performing a unique ballet technique called Adagio, the undeniable chemistry between the husband and wife brought all three judges to tears. They were even described on the TV talent show as the “great love story” of the competition.

Kate (27) is a trained dancer and teaches, while Lei’atauais a courier and a rugby player. Lei’ataua (28) admits he only jumped on board to support his wife’s dream of making it in the industry – and also didn’t trust any other man to be lifting her.

“On the rugby field you’re told to go out and smash everyone, and then I’m going on stage as a dancer and I have to be elegant. We have done all we could on the show and felt that we progressed really well.”

Although the couple didn’t win the $100,000 first prize, the experience has brought them closer together, which they say is priceless.

“As a guy it’s hard to tell a girl how much you love them in words,” Lei’ataua says, gazing at his wife. “But I feel like I’ve done that through dance.”

With their newfound fame, the couple hope to travel the country showcasing their ultimate dance of love, meaning their plan for another baby is on hold once again.

“We’ve shared our passion with the rest of the country, and we hope to continue that journey,” says Kate.
