Billie Jordan is best known as the founder of the Hip Op-eration Crew, which held the Guinness World Record for the oldest dance group.

Based on Waiheke Island, the seven-member crew are aged between 71 and 96.

Billie, 46, said she couldn’t reveal too many details about the deal, but the movie will go into pre-production as early as next year.

“I get to attend the USA film premiere, which will be exciting and I’m sure I’ll be having many surreal ‘pinch me’, moments over the next few years.”

She said she was approached by several film companies last year after giving a TED Talk.

“They felt I had a life story which could make a great film.

“The producers have some strong Kiwi connections; so I knew they’d get me and get the essence of what it means to be a New Zealander and how we see the world.”

The clever Kiwi, who survived childhood abuse and the Christchurch earthquakes and was awarded a NZ Order of Merit for her volunteer work with the elderly in June, says it’s still uncertain which parts of her life will be included in the story, but the film will focus on her experiences as the founder of Hip Op-eration.

“It’s going to be a strange experience seeing an actor portray me in a film. Very few people get to have that experience so it’s a real privilege – but a bit weird at the same time.”
