Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has been written out of the UK soap following 19 child sex offence charges, which include six rape charges.
The 48-year-old actor, who has played mechanic Kevin Webster for 30 years, will appear in court on February 27 for crimes allegedly committed between 2001 and 2010, including indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.
“Panicked” Corobosses have been forced to come up with an emergency storyline to write out Michael from the show as the star could be involved in court proceedings for several months.
An ITV source told The Sunthat the show’s writers are reportedly considering a storyline where Kevin is arrested and jailed for kidnapping.
Michael has proclaimed his innocence, saying, “I’m innocent of these charges and intend to fight them vigorously” in a statement.
Police questioned the actor in 2011 after a teenage girl claimed he had sexually assaulted her from the age of six, but no charges were brought as prosecutors found insufficient evidence to take the allegations to court.
