Italian stallions roar back into MKR kitchen

We’ve already seen some explosive instant restaurants on the show and this week, My Kitchen Rules Australia is bringing back a batch of contestants ready to wow the judges once again.

Among them is New South Wales pals Luciano and Martino, a pair of fiery Italians who can’t wait to give hosts Pete Evans and Manu Feildel another, true taste of their home cuisine.

“I could cook you a dish a day for a year and still I wouldn’t double up,” enthuses Luciano (49), who says he cut his culinary teeth preparing meals 10,000 metres up as a flight attendant.

Adds businessman Martino (48), “People think there is only one kind of lasagne, which there is not. There are about 20 types!”

And lasagne isn’t the only flavour of Italy the pair are cooking up. Hailing from the country which famously invented opera, it won’t just be their dishes that hit a high note in the MKR kitchen.

“When Luciano does something wrong, he starts singing,” reveals Martino.

“Music is a remedy to lots of things!” Luciano points out. “I could not live without my music.”

And being Italian to the core, it’s no surprise what one food item the lively chefs say they couldn’t live without.

“If you said to me, ‘You can’t have pasta for the rest of your life,’ you may as well just kill me,” Luciano continues.

“I love entertaining. There’s nothing more satisfying than when you’ve made something and your friends are enjoying it. It’s the way we were brought up, especially Italians – you go to Nonna’s house and before ‘Hello’, it’s, ‘Are you hungry?’”

Catch Luciano and Martino on MKR Australia, TV2, Sundays to Wednesdays at 7.30pm.
