The Golden Globe Nominations were announced this morning and slavery epic 12 Years a Slave and the crime caper American Hustle lead the pack with seven nominations each.
Stars Olivia Wilde, Aziz Ansari and Zoe Saldana announced the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s awards at a ceremony in Beverly Hills this morning. Sandra Bullock received a nomination for best actress in a drama her role in sci-fi Gravity but she has some strong competition in her category from Judi Dench in Philomena, Emma Thompson in Saving Mr Banks, Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, and Kate Winslet in Labor Day. Meryl Streep is nominated for best actress in a comedy or musical for August: Osage County and her castmate Julia Roberts is nominated in the supporting actress category but is up against this year’s big winner, American Hustle star Jennifer Lawrence, who is is in the running for her second Golden Globe. There were a few surprises – although Oprah Winfrey was nominated for a SAG award this week, she has not been nominated for her role in The Butler. And although Tom Hanks was nominated for best actor for his role in Captain Phillips, he has been overlooked for his supporting role as Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks.
