Josh Mckenzie: Plays son John Truebridge Jnr
Can you briefly describe your character? What do you admire – or detest! – most about him?
Bacchic, hedonistic, playful, obsessive, addictive and very – euphemism ahoy! – open-minded, which I’d happily agree to admiring most about him!
If you were suddenly, somehow made filthy rich, what’s the first thing you’d buy?
A coffee.
What would you spend your last $20 on?
A coffee.
Miriama Smith: Plays the matriarch Brady
When you first read the script for Filthy Rich, what drew you to your role?
It made me laugh out loud. The writing is witty and sharp, and keeps you wanting more.
Can you briefly describe your character? What do you admire – or detest! – most about her?
I admire the fact that Brady is a fighter and a survivor. She comes from very humble beginnings but that doesn’t hold her back. In fact, it’s a driving force for Brady – giving up is not an option. She is a mother who practices tough love, but only because she wants the best for her daughter and wants to teach her that success comes from hard work and determination – not luck.
What kind of preparation did you have to do for your role?
I actually worked a lot on the physicality of Brady. I decided to take a more “yang” approach to her daily existence. So I cut out yoga and started boxing and weight training again. I had to get used to walking in heels – I’m more of a flip-flops and gumboots girl at home – and those power suits took a bit of warming to. But ultimately I drew from my own strength and vulnerabilities as a mother.
What would you spend your last $20 on?
I’d give it to my son and let him spend it… I’m sure he’d get more joy out of it.
Taylor Hall: Plays Vader, one of the illegitimate children.
Can you briefly describe your character? What do you admire – or detest! – most about him?
Vader is a foster kid from the West Coast. He’s been living with his foster mother and brother when we first meet him. He has great intentions and a big heart but doesn’t necessarily think things through. As stressful as I think I would find it to live in that way, I have to admire how resourceful he is.
What kind of preparation did you have to do for your role?
I went down and stayed on the West Coast, and talked to the locals. It gave me a good foundation and understanding of where Vader comes from and what his values might be. I had a great time!
Filthy Rich is a brand-new show – was it daunting at all to start a show from scratch?
It was a little daunting at first, but everybody on the show, from the production team to the crew, have worked with such skill and confidence that it’s been so easy to believe in the show. It’s been an incredible experience.
If you were suddenly, somehow made filthy rich, what’s the first thing you’d buy?
I’d buy a house! Then I’d squirrel the rest away and try my best to forget about it.
Emma Fenton: Plays Savannah, one of the illegitimate children
When you first read the script for Filthy Rich, what drew you to your role?
I loved her spunk. She had this cool, down-to-earth charm about her, despite living a tough life. I haven’t explored a character with this rough background before so I was excited about it. I like learning about people and getting to live in someone else’s shoes.
Can you briefly describe your character? What do you admire – or detest! – most about her?
I love her intelligence. She knows what she wants and how to get it. She’s a leader, which I admire and wish I could be more of. She doesn’t care what people think of her and she’s not afraid to speak her mind. She is a confident young lady and does all she can to protect the people she loves.
What kind of preparation did you have to do for your role?
I had to learn how to pole dance! It was an awesome experience – one that is not easy. It takes a lot of time, strength and confidence to do.
If you were suddenly, somehow made filthy rich, what’s the first thing you’d buy?
Being purely selfish, I would buy a mansion on a tropical island with dolphins and whales swimming at my doorstep. Then I’d buy a pet cat – a Maine Coon to be precise.
Alex Tarrant: Plays Joe, one of the illegitimate children
When you first read the script for Filthy Rich, what drew you to your role?
Boxing! Joe’s a boxer, so chances are I’m going to get to punch someone… in a safe, controlled environment, of course! But in all seriousness, I loved Joe’s power, his determination and how far he would go to get the answers he seeks.
Can you briefly describe your character? What do you admire – or detest! – most about him?
Joe’s always felt deep down that he doesn’t belong and it makes him angry. He doesn’t stop until he finds answers, and I appreciate that about him. He’s a bit too serious for my liking but maybe I’d be the same if my current life was swept out from underneath me.
If you were suddenly, somehow made filthy rich, what’s the first thing you’d buy?
It’s between a house or tickets overseas to find a beautiful country to buy a house in… maybe Japan.
What would you spend your last $20 on?
On my rich friends so I could forever say, “Remember that time I shouted you”? Edible plants may be a sensible choice too. I could plant them in the garden of my house in Japan.
