I wasn’t expecting much from this movie about caveman Grug (Nicolas Cage) and his family, who have to leave the safety of their cave in order to survive, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Grug’s daughter Eep (Emma Stone) is funny and endearing, and her crush on inventive orphaned hottie Guy (Ryan Reynolds) is cute enough that even my nine-year-old son didn’t cringe.
Typically, there’s a “message” – change is to be embraced, not feared – and there are no real baddies in the movie, just misunderstood creatures. It’s a visual feast with plenty of laughs.
