British songstress Dido recorded her fourth album while pregnant with her first child, singing her songs while her son, Stanley, was kicking inside her. And there’s an optimism on the album that befits her new status, with songs such as the ethereal Go Dreaming and the title track – her 18-month-old’s favourite lullaby. Dido’s vocals are as haunting and delicate as ever, but there are a few here that are so gentle they have no substance. End of Night is a synthy jewel that has the same kind of sticking power as Dido’s 2003 hit White Flag.
