Actress Brooke Shields says she was always frightened of sex, “partly because I was so sequestered and partly because of Catholicism. For a long time, I regarded sex as taboo and scary. It’s only now that I’m a mother myself that I think I have finally dealt with that one. Catholic guilt has a lot to answer for. When I had fertility problems and a miscarriage, naturally I thought it was God’s way to telling me I didn’t deserve to do the normal things, like being a mum.”
