Daughter no.3! Richie and Gemma’s baby joy

The Black Sticks favourite and All Black legend have welcomed their third daughter

Kiwi sporting legends Richie and Gemma McCaw have added to their team with a gorgeous baby girl, named Ella Mae, who was born on 3 April, weighing 3.45kg.

“We are enjoying these precious moments as a family of five,” says the couple, who are also parents to daughters Charlotte, four, and Grace, two.

Former Black Sticks hockey star Gemma, 32, recently told The Australian Women’s Weekly, “Three under five is going to be hectic! Everyone keeps telling us we won’t be able to divide and conquer. Both of the girls are really busy girls – it’ll be chaos, but a good kind of chaos!”

Charlotte and Grace are tickled pink to be big sisters.

While she says All Blacks fans had constantly told her they were hoping for a little boy since Richie, 42, is such a rugby legend, the couple decided not to find out the baby’s sex. Wellness guru Gemma insists, “Every baby is a blessing, regardless of its gender. I want my girls to know they’re absolutely just as equal to any boy – that they’re more than enough.”

Local celebrities, including Dan Carter, have wished the family well on Instagram. A new mum-of-three herself, MasterChef’s Nadia Lim wrote, “Wonderful news. Congrats, team!” Newshub presenter Samantha Hayes added, “She’s oh-so-adorable. Love those tiny newborn snuggles.” Silver Ferns legend Katrina Rore posted, “Household full of girls – the best!”
