Santa will be getting a lot of requests for ‘poopin pets’, furry robots and JoJo Bows from New Zealand kids this year, according to a new toy trend report.

Trade Me has released its list of top 10 children’s Christmas gifts, which is based on popular searches on its site, combined with national and international trends.

According to spokeswoman Millie Silvester, Hatchimals are again predicted to be another favourite this year.

“Hatchimals were last year’s runaway favourite, and became virtually impossible to get hold of as youngsters’ obsessed over the ‘colleggtibles’. Parents had to learn the hard way that if you wait too long, you risk missing out on that special toy or paying way over retail value,” she said.

Hatchimals are furry robot creatures which hatch from an egg and need to be cared for as they grow.

“If Furby and Tamagotchi got together and had babies, they would have Hatchimals. It’s no surprise they’ve released the next generation in time for Christmas, and this year it’s double trouble with Twin Hatchimals.”

Miss Silvester said Hatchimals weren’t the only toy to get a Christmas 2017 reboot. “FurReal Friends have brought out a series of ‘poopin’ pets. These “pets” require walking and feeding, plus you need to ‘tidy up’ after they’ve digested their dinner.

“Another furry friend has taken top spot on Trade Me’s top Christmas toy list, Feisty Pets… These two-faced soft toys turn from darling to demonic with a quick squeeze, narrowing their eyes and revealing a scary set of fangs.”

Also making the list this year are JoJo Bows, which became popular from the TV show Dance Moms, Shopkins miniature collectables and Lego Block tape.
