Wife and son of policeman taken hostage near Paris

Police have stormed a home where an attacker was holding the wife and son of an officer he’d just stabbed to death.

Three people are dead after a man attacked and stabbed a policeman and held his wife and young son hostage.

According to Le Parisien, shots and explosions were heard from the Magnanville home, 55km west of Paris after police stormed the suburban property.

While the son and wife were inside, the man tweeted that he’d killed the woman.

France’s interior minister spokesman, Pierre-Henry Brandet, confirmed that a policeman, a woman and the attacker have been killed.

Brandet says that police rescued a three-year-old from the scene.

The slain police officer was stabbed by the attacker nine times in the abdomen just outside the property, reports The Mirror.

Le Parisien have identified the attacker as 42-year-old commander Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, the neighbour to the victim. He refused to talk to police negotiators during the hostage situation.

“Negotiations were opened but it became clear that they would not succeed and police then entered the home, where they found the body of a woman,” Brandet said.

“The toll is a heavy one. This commander, this police officer was killed by the individual … (and) we discovered the body of a woman. The assailant, the criminal was killed. Thankfully, a little boy was saved.”
