Joshua Coombes is a British hairstylist who has decided to use his talents and skills to make a real change in people’s lives.
After work in a salon, he goes out on the streets of London and cuts the hair of homeless people. He does it for free, off his own back, because he believes that it’s the right thing to do.
Joshua posts the results on his Instagram feed. He also listens, and his ‘before and after’ pictures are captioned with a story of the person featured.
He says he was inspired by a similar scheme he saw running while on a trip to New York and decided to start his own when he got home. He now does about seven haircuts a night.
“For me, it is about giving something back and raising awareness of the homeless and by doing it on the street, it breaks the generalisation and so far it has been a good response,” he told Daily Mail.
The young Londoner is also a co-founder of DoSomethingForNothing – a “global, goodwill movement” with a pretty strong message:
“Everyone has the power to #DoSomethingForNothing. We’re not raising awareness, we’re raising compassion. We’re mobilising people globally to love on their communities. If everyone, in every city, did one thing for nothing, we could change the world.”
