Aren’t times supposed to be tough? I got a flyer in the post the other day about pet insurance. It gave me the opportunity to take out health insurance out for each of my dogs at around $5000 per animal per year. This included coverage for “specialist” charges and funeral expenses. I thought if your dog got sick you took it to the vet. If it died, you buried it in the back garden… Mr aren’t you allowed to do that any longer?
Yes, you are still allowed to bury your pet in the backyard as long as it doesn’t interfere with electricity and gas lines or water pipes.
So there is no need to pay for a funeral if you don’t want the trimmings available at the pet cemetery. This all comes down to what you want to spend your money on.
The insurers know that once we become attached to a pet it is very hard to have them put down if money can purchase its survival. This will include paying expensive “specialist” vet charges should your animal have a condition requiring that sort of knowledge. But it’s not cheap. I see you can even insure your rabbit for $1500 if you’re prepared to pay up to $150 a year in premiums.
On our place, we shoot rabbits, but we live in the country (I have never shot one myself – can’t bring myself to do it).
The worst thing that can happen is that you have a disagreement with a partner or family member over what to do at the time of the crisis. So now is the time to discuss the money, not then.
