We are looking at buying a new kitchen for our house. When manufacturers give a broad estimate of the cost, does that usually include appliances, or do you have to pay for them separately?
The cost of appliances is not always included in the estimate of the price of a new kitchen.
It can be a significant extra figure if you’re intending to replace your fridge, oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave.
If you visit a showroom which displays a range of kitchens in the $40,000 to $50,000 area, that probably just applies to cabinetry, benches, sinks, cupboards and lighting… not the appliances. You need to discuss with the manufacturer the appliances you want, or are keeping from the previous kitchen, so dimensions can be incorporated into the plan.
The manufacturer can purchase the appliances for you, or may suggest you buy them directly from the retailer. Sometimes the taps and other hardware may also be additional. Of course, every deal is different, and a good kitchen supplier will have the flexibility to structure the contract just the way you want it.
Make sure all their costs are transparent before you start. And that includes whether they add their own commission onto items they bring in, such as appliances, lighting and taps.
