Australian actor shot dead during filming in Brisbane

Statements from police and band members have confirmed the killing.

An Australian actor has been shot dead in Brisbane this week, during the filming of a music video.

Johann Ofner, 28, from the Gold Coast, suffered a chest wound as crew filmed inside the Brooklyn Standard bar in Eagle Lane, Brisbane on Monday.

Queensland police confirmed that several firearms were discharged during the filming, that happened at around 1400 local time.

The video was being produced for Sydney based hip hop group, Bliss n Eso, whose management have since released a statement confirming the death.

“We’re incredibly saddened by the tragic incident that occurred today. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and friends,” the band wrote on Twitter.

The statement also confirmed band members were not present at the time of the shooting.

On Tuesday, Johann’s devastated partner Kati Garnett spoke of her loss on Instagram, writing:

“Today the love of my life was taken from me and I still can’t believe it.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do with out you, the best people are always taken from us you were a true Angel. I love you so-so much forever and ever.”

It was also revealed that Johann has a six-year-old daughter.

Detective Inspector Tom Armitt told reporters that they are now conducting a criminal investigation.

“We do not know specifically how those injuries occurred at this point in time and that’ll be [the] subject of our investigation,” he said.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the Brooklyn Standard bar confirmed that their doors would remain closed while police tried to establish what happened.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the individual involved, and we appreciate your respect and understanding at this time.”

Reporter for Seven News, Paul Kadak, tweeted several photos from the scene after the shooting, showing police and ambulance crews outside the venue.
