Trending Black Friday 2025 products predicted to sell out in New Zealand

For Black Friday 2024, spending increased across categories like clothing, home furnishings and technology, according to a December 2024 report from ANZ. Similarly, Afterpay data highlighted that apparel and accessories were the most popular categories for spend, followed by home and garden and electronics.

As Black Friday 2025 approaches, product trends highlight a winning range of items across beauty, fashion, homewares, and tech. Alongside Christmas gifts and holiday decorations, here’s what New Zealand shoppers are predicted to purchase:

As an emphasis on ‘self-care’ rises, and advancements in technology continue to influence personal wellbeing and grooming categories.

Alongside LED face masks and the versatile Dyson Airwrap, toothbrushes that utilise light and sonic therapy are gaining popularity for their ability to promote healthier gums and whiter teeth.

For AI-powered, personalised health monitoring and insights, fitness enthusiasts are increasingly turning to sleek, wearable trackers like the Whoop band or fitness rings like the Oura.

Also increasing in popularity are walking pads, which offer ease of use to encourage movement while working, taking calls or watching TV.

Clean, fresh beauty looks with a ‘skincare-first’ focus continue to trend. As more people seek products that promote beauty from within, collagen-infused skincare is having a moment. Another promising innovation set to take off in 2026 is skincare infused with exosomes for a regenerative approach to anti-aging.

pH-reactive products are also gaining attention for their chameleon-like ability to provide customised, flattering colours. Standouts include the Milk Makeup Cooling Water Jelly Tint in pHreeze and the Clinique Black Honey lipstick.

Korean beauty products continue to gain traction for their affordability and ability to achieve a luminous, ‘glassy’ finish. Western beauty brands are catching on to this trend, including the TikTok viral Byoma.

Comfort continues to influence style trends for 2025. Activewear remains a staple, from the polarising ‘scrunch bum’ shorts and leggings that accentuate a sculpted silhouette to matching sets in buttery-soft materials that allow easy movement while looking polished.

A new hot category to watch is swimmable activewear, ideal for Kiwi beach culture. Nimble’s Sweat to Splash range is a standout for this very reason.

For dressier attire, sheer, sequin, and lace fabrications remain popular. If you’re undecided about the sheer trend, consider wearing shapewear for added coverage.

Sneakers continue to dominate, with the Adidas Sambas and New Balance 9060s maintaining popularity. As we head into 2026, the streamlined Puma Speedcats are a sleek reprieve from the chunky shoe trend. However, if you can’t get enough of the ‘ugly-chic’ shoe trend, try the Salomon XT-6 for a rugged aesthetic.

For dressing up, the wedge thong heel is having a moment. Bonus points if they’re made from rubber for an elevated take on the humble jandal. If, like me, you missed out on the sought-after Zara x Havaianas platform sandal, you’ll find comparable styles at Novo, The Iconic, and Crocs.

As convenience continues to drive trends in homeware and technology, barista-grade coffee machines are becoming a popular solution for replicating a café experience at home. Bigger and better smart TVs are also transforming how we enjoy entertainment. According to data from Omdia, sales of Smart AI Google TVs are up 19.2% year-on-year.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is also creating a buzz. The affordable gadget plugs into an older TV’s HDMI port to convert it into a modern smart TV for streaming, music playback, and even Alexa-powered voice control.

And an ‘exploding product’ that’s only going to increase in popularity in 2026? Plaud’s ChatGPT-powered AI voice recorders to take your productivity to the next level.

When are the Black Friday 2025 sales in New Zealand?

Although Black Friday falls on Friday, 29 November 2025, the sales don’t start there. Following global trends, most New Zealand retailers kick off their Black Friday deals in early November, or tease ‘warm-up’ sales before their main Black Friday sale, which typically takes place the week of Monday, 24 November.

Other key shopping events during ‘Black November’ include Singles’ Day and Click Frenzy sales that commence before or on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.

Of course, as part of the wider BCFM shopping period, there’s also Cyber Monday on 2 December 2025, when we expect existing Black Friday sales to continue or new deals to drop as the finale before Boxing Day sales begin around the week of Christmas.

Where do I find the best Black Friday 2025 deals in New Zealand?

Finding the best Black Friday deals is about preparation and strategy. With so many sales competing for your attention, write a list to help you avoid impulse buys. Here are my tips for shopping smart:

  • Prioritise popular items: If you’re after a high-demand product (hello, Dyson Airwrap) or you’re after an item in a popular colour or size, check stock levels early and don’t wait too long to buy. Yes, you have good taste, but don’t let others beat you to it.
  • Act quick on rare deals: For brands that create products that sell themselves (Apple AirPods, Blunt Umbrellas) and rarely go on sale, loyal shoppers pounce quickly. However, if you’re flexible and not tied to a specific brand, you’ll have more time to shop around.
  • Look beyond traditional retailers: Some brands that avoid sales on their own websites or have past-season stock to offload often host sales on third-party platforms like NZSale (which is closing on 23 November 2025), The Outlet (the outcome of Torpedo7’s sale for $1 by the Warehouse Group to Tahua Group), and Onceit.
  • Compare prices: Use a price comparison tool to avoid misleading “was $200, now $199” deals.
  • Quality is King: My motto? Quality over quantity, always. Kogan-commissioned PureProfile data reveals that for Black Friday 2025, when making big-ticket purchases like a TV, Australian consumers are prioritising price and valuing quality.
  • Early access sales: Some brands invite customers to sign up for their email newsletters to shop deals before they become available to the general public.
  • Check delivery timeframes and return policies: Ensure that any gifts will arrive in time for Christmas, and review the Ts&Cs for details on returns and exchanges.

Should I do my Christmas shopping during the Black Friday sales?

The 2025 Black Friday sales are the perfect time to do your Christmas shopping for gifts and decorations. According to data from Afterpay, nearly 40% of holiday shoppers made purchases during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday window in 2024. This year, with cost-of-living pressure rising, two-thirds of Kiwis plan to finish their Christmas shopping before December to take advantage of discounts now while avoiding last-minute stress.

When’s the best time to shop on Black Friday 2025?

Noon on Friday, 29 November 2024, was the busiest shopping hour over the Black Friday Cyber Monday sales period, according to Afterpay. Why? Value-conscious shoppers waited till the actual day in the hope of securing the best Black Friday deals.

For 2025, this is an excellent strategy if you’re not set on a particular item that is likely to sell out or if you’re not loyal to a specific brand. However, don’t forget to use a price comparison checker to ensure the deal is genuine.

Should I be practical with my Black Friday purchases?

Depending on your budget, why not both? My advice is to invest in practical, ‘boring buys’ that improve your life. This could include upgrading household appliances that are on their last legs and replacing worn towels and bed sheets, or investing in a cooling mattress to combat the summer heat. However, that’s not to say you can’t treat yourself to something special, like a beauty advent calendar or a new dress for the silly season.
