Outdoor gear

Ever bought a cheap tent? If so you’ll understand this one. They leak and break, and there’s nothing more miserable than three days spent soggy because you paid the lowest price. A good one is more comfortable, and will last for many years to come if cared for correctly.

Tattoos

You’re inking your body for life, so you want the best money can buy. Don’t settle for a 60 dollar jobbie that will need correcting almost immediately.

Good shoes

We are on our feet a hell of a lot. Whether it’s pounding the pavements to work, walking the shop floor, or running after little ones: our feet deal with a lot. A good pair of shoes makes one hell of a difference to the way you’ll feel at the end of the day.

Mattresses

You spend a third of your life asleep, so you want to make sure that’s time well spent. Plus a better night’s sleep equals a more productive day, less illness, and a happier you.

Coffee

We really appreciate this one as Kiwis. A good quality, properly brewed coffee vastly outweighs a cheap and crappy one.

Headphones

There’s a reason why your 10 dollar headphones break every month: they’re cheap and badly made. If you’re a music lover, why not save up an extra 20, 30 dollars and get a pair of quality headphones that will last. The sound quality will be better too.

Wine

We’re pretty lucky having so many wonderful wineries right on our doorstep, and it’s safe to say you can tell the difference from a fine wine from a vineyard than a 9 dollar bottle you pick up at the supermarket. While dinner parties can get seriously expensive if you’re forking out, perhaps it’s time to save that nice bottle for Sunday evenings chilling out with your partner.

Meat

As pennies are increasingly stretched these days, it’s tricky to resist the appeal of a cheaper cut of meat. But what some Reddit users are recommending, is rather than eating cheap meat every day of the week, cut down to eating meat just three or four days, and pick a better quality product. Easier said than done, but if you need some veggie inspiration, head to Food To Love for more.
