Cleaning blinds can be a headache, especially if they are made of a fabric that isn’t supposed to be washed. Here are my tips for cleaning various types of blinds:
For roller blinds: Make a solution of 1 teaspoon of cloudy ammonia and a squirt of liquid soap to half a litre of warm water. Sponge the blind, but do not get it too wet, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Wait until it’s completely dry before rolling up again.
For non-washable blinds: Make up a dough of 4 tablespoons of flour, 2 tablespoons of vodka and enough water to make a firm dough. Rub the piece of dough over the blind until it gets dirty then replace it with a clean piece.
For Venetians: Use a plastic spatula wrapped in a soft cloth. Dampen the cloth with methylated spirits and wipe clean. If your blinds are wooden, use linseed oil or olive oil on your damp cloth.
