When the nights are hot, sometimes you just want to wear as little as possible to bed. However, it seems sleeping in your undies could be doing you more harm than good.
Despite gynecologists often pushing the benefits of sleeping with nothing on down there, only 18 percent of women follow their advice, according to a new Brazilian study.
“I often tell my patients to sleep without underwear, and some of them look at me like I have three heads,” says Dr Alyssa Dweck told Shape magazine.
“They’re concerned … that you’re supposed to have a barrier. Wearing no underwear might seem kind of gross to them.”
But Dr Dweck and her colleagues say while it might be uncomfortable at first, going commando in bed is a smart move.
“If [the area] is constantly covered—especially by a fabric that’s not moisture-wicking or absorbent—moisture collects,” says Dweck. “That’s a perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast.”
If sleeping without underwear is just too much, the experts have some simple tips to help:
1.Choose a loose-fitting pair made of cotton – no lycra – or borrow some boxers from your partner.
2.Give panty liners a rest occasionally as the material isn’t very breathable.
3.Think about cutting the crotch out of your stockings to make them less restrictive.
