Two years ago Simone Anderson was 169kg, always tired, and too embarrassed to go out with friends.
With incredible tenacity, and the support of a huge online following, she’s reshaped both her body and her life.
Here, she shares the lessons she’s learnt along the way, and some tips she has found helpful in her weight loss journey.
Talk about your plans
The more people who know about your weight loss goals, the more encouragement you’re going to receive. When people know your plans, they’ll be more likely to help you out by joining you on a walk, or going somewhere with healthy food. Your friends are going to be more supportive if you show them how dedicated you are to doing this.
Make small goals along the way
Set yourself little, achievable goals, and reward yourself for reaching them. Make your rewards about fun experiences and new purchases, rather than food-related treats. Look at things you may achieve in a week or two weeks, rather than two years, as that’s going to keep you motivated in the short term.
Aim for balance
Life is life, things are going to pop up and there are going to be days when you can’t exercise, or you can’t make a meal so you have to grab something on the run. Don’t let one unhealthy meal turn into a ‘bad day’. Don’t make it ‘no sugar, no carbs, no fun’ ; if I cut out all of that I wouldn’t be where I am today. It’s just about making sure you really do have treats in moderation, then refocus and get back into it.
Stock up your freezer
I always make sure I have some frozen meals so no matter what, I’ve got something healthy to come home to and throw in the microwave. Most Sundays I do food prep for the coming week, as freezer meals are great for when you’re short on time.
