Pretty Big Movement is a New York-based dance company founded by Akria Armstrong – a professional dancer who struggled to find representation due to her size.

Despite being featured as a principal dancer in two of Beyoncé’s music videos, Akria said she was repeatedly judged for her looks before anyone even saw what she could do.

“I want to be the pioneer for plus-sized women,” Akria says in the video from The Scene.

“With all the frustrations and going on auditions and getting told ‘no,’ I wanted to create a platform for other plus-size women to feel comfortable.

“It’s about uplifting and empowering women to feel like they can be confident to do anything — not just dance.”
