Nude makeup tips

No need to be naked this summer - get the right shades of makeup for a natural look.
Beauty - nude makeup tips

Legendary fashion maven Diana Vreeland declared the natural look “just laziness, really”. I don’t agree. Every busy woman needs a pared down makeup look, especially over the hot summer months. Top Kiwi makeup artist Nikki Lovrich shares her advice on going nude.

“Nude makeup is not about wearing no makeup – if you do that you’ll look washed out. Natural-looking makeup can involve quite a few products, but it’s important to know how to apply them – and the trick is subtlety.

“It all starts with the skin. The aim is to apply a touch of warm colour and coverage while still allowing the natural texture to show through. “I love to do this with Clinique’s Age Defense BB Cream $50, as it’s so light or Bobbi Brown’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser $67, which is great if you have oilier skin and prefer a matte finish.

“If your face is lighter than your body, choose a shade that is a little warmer to match it up. “For the cheeks, use a bronzer but stay away from anything too sparkly. You can also use your bronzer as an eye shadow. Just dust it over your browbone with a large brush. This instantly brightens eyes. Also dab a touch of bronzer across your forehead and chin where the sun hits for a tan.

“If the whole face is nude and natural, a little colour on the lips works nicely. Instead of lipstick, add a coloured sheer gloss in a fruity tone.”
