These days, being a brand ambassador is part and parcel of being an A-list celebrity.
Adele to L’Oreal: Keep your $20m

But British chanteuse Adele has decided she can do without the record-breaking $20m that French cosmetics brand L’Oreal was going to pay her to be their new “face”.

The 25-year-old singer and songwriter was set to replace British recording artist Cheryl Cole as L’Oreal ambassador but pulled out at the last moment.

“L’Oreal was in negotiations for the deal with Adele and it looked to be happening – but she just changed her mind on it,” a source told People.

“L’Oreal is gobsmacked that she turned down such a huge amount”

The British hitmaker, who’s reportedly already worth $60m, has made it clear in the past that she doesn’t want to sell out and align herself to products that she doesn’t believe in.

“I don’t want my name anywhere near another brand. I don’t want to be tainted or haunted. I think it’s shameful when you sell out,” the singer said.

Adele shot to fame in 2009 with the release of her debut album 19 but really shook the world with her follow-up album 21, which featured number one singles, ‘Rolling In The Deep’ and ‘Someone Like You’.

In 2013, the Grammy Award winner added another two awards to her growing cabinet, winning an Academy Award and Golden Globe award for the song ‘Skyfall’ from the James Bond blockbuster of the same name.

L’Oreal’s previous ambassadors have included Beyonce Knowles, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez and Lea Michele, although Adele’s payday would’ve eclipsed them all.
