It's a small world after all.

After a couple of “awkward” dates with Brett Renall, Christchurch bride Julia Malley was delighted to see him find his soulmate Angel Fulljames on the first season of MAFS. “It’s awesome he’s found true love,” she says.

It could have been Julia!

But that’s not the reason she applied for Married at First Sight NZ. After being single for six years, the account manager, 32, decided to “grab life with both hands” in honour of her dad, who died in 2012.

Sadly, Julia and her father had argued just five days before he died and hadn’t made up when he suffered a fatal heart attack.

She recalls, “Our relationship was up and down because he was unfaithful to my mum. He reached out to me just before he died, but I didn’t want to talk to him. It’s one of my biggest regrets.”

Since then, Julia – whose wedding was coincidentally on the sixth anniversary of her father’s death – has travelled the world.

“He’d be proud I signed up for this. I know Dad would say, ‘Good on you, Julia!'”
