The wellness trends that the new wave of royals are embracing

With Duchess Meghan leading the charge, the royals are taking up meditation, forest bathing and more.

In an age where phrases like juice cleanse, Keto and #fitspo are thrown around, it seems wellness fads are well and truly taking over.

And while some are hell-bent on defying the new norm, there are other rather unexpected fans of the healthy living movement.

Enter the royal family, who are hopping aboard the well-being train – one matcha latte at a time.

Yep, you read that right. The younger members of the royal family are embracing wellness fads – and Meghan Markle is leading the charge.

While on her royal tour of New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Tonga with Prince Harry last year, known yogi Duchess Meghan revealed that she gets up at 4.30am each morning to perform the ritual.

It didn’t come as a complete surprise given her passion for health and lifestyle (as was apparent via her now-deleted blog The Tig), but it seems there could be more to her wellness rituals than sun salutations come dawn.

Indeed Meghan could well be influencing other members of the royal family to embrace the wellness world – her husband Prince Harry included.

Just this past week, Prince Harry revealed that he meditates every day.

Royal reporter Rebecca English recalled the moment during his visit to Birkenhead with Meghan:

“A 69-year-old Buddhist monk named Kelsang Sonam, who gave Harry a copy of a book entitled 8 Steps to Happiness, said the prince told him he meditates every day,” she wrote on Twitter.

It has also been reported that Harry has given up caffeine and alcohol, as encouraged by his American wife.

Reports claim that Meghan has suggested Harry replace alcohol and even tea with still mineral water as the father-to-be kickstarts plans for a reinvigorated health regime in 2019.

“All she [Meghan] did was show him there’s another way to live and he’s become a huge fan. He eats well, doesn’t poison his body, does a bit of yoga and is a lot happier,” a source claimed.

Meanwhile, Duchess Catherine is on board, recently revealing that she enjoys the Japanese activity of ‘forest bathing’ – a healing ritual called shinrin-yoku whereby one surrounds themselves in green, forest atmosphere.

It has become a preventative health care and healing technique in Japanese medicine.

The ritual has proved to be influential to the Duchess of Cambridge, who is currently designing a garden for the Chelsea Flower Show.

While attending a community garden in Islington in January, it was announced that the 37-year-old royal will design a garden at the Chelsea Flower Show this year as a way to encourage children and families to embrace nature.

We’re sure Kate will be passing down her wholesome passion for all things green to her three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

And as for Wills? Well, there’s no harm in hoping we might bump into him at our next bikram yoga class… never say never, right?
