Duchess Catherine donned a floor-length gown from Roland Mouret for the occasion, completing her glamorous look with sparkling gold and silver hoop earrings and a simple black clutch.

The royal spent the evening receiving visitors from SportsAid in celebration of their 40th birthday, including athletes who had benefited from the support of the charity.

Later that night, she hosted a banquet for her guests in the gorgeous King’s Gallery in the palace’s State Apartments.

Kate has been a passionate patron of SportsAid, which provides financial support and recognition for the next generation of British Olympians and Paralympians, since 2013. In a speech delivered at the palace dinner, the self-confessed sports fan praised SportsAid’s work in encouraging the spirit of athleticism in the country.

“The brilliance of SportsAid is in really understanding just how much athletic competition gives to our country as a whole,” she said.

“By investing in young sporting talent, they ensure that there is a strong pipeline of inspirational heroes.

“These athletes then serve as motivators to everyone in the UK to get involved, get active, and embrace the power of sport to make us happier and healthier.”

The royal concluded her speech by confirming that she was “immensely proud” to be a patron of the charity and was looking forward to cheering on the athletes competing in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio.

The mum-of-two has kept up an avid interest in sports since stepping into her role as the Duchess of Cambridge. Alongside her work as a Royal Patron of SportsAid, Kate is also a supporter of the 1851 Trust, which works to inspire and engage young people in sailing and the marine industry.
