Friends star Jennifer Aniston is starring in the up-and-coming TV adaptation of Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died.
The New York Times bestseller is a poignant yet witty recounting of former child actor McCurdy’s struggles with her domineering mother. In July 2025, Apple TV+ announced that Aniston will star in the 10-episode dramedy, with McCurdy serving as an executive producer.
Aniston has a long-standing relationship with the streaming platform, starring and executive producing Apple TV+’s award-winning series The Morning Show.
We’ve got all the details on I’m Glad My Mom Died, including where to watch it in New Zealand once it’s released.
What is I’m Glad My Mom Died about?
According to Apple TV+, the book-to-screen adaptation of the bestselling memoir will focus on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress starring in a hit kids’ show and her narcissistic mother, who takes pride in her role as “a starlet’s mother.”

While we await more details, the memoir itself is a raw and deeply personal account of the former child star’s life in the spotlight. Jennette McCurdy openly shares her struggles with her controlling mother, Debra, eating disorders, and the pressures of fame, offering a darkly humorous exploration of her journey toward healing and self-discovery.
Who will star in I’m Glad My Mom Died?
Jennifer Aniston will star as McCurdy’s overbearing mother in the dramedy. But it isn’t Aniston’s first time taking on the role of a “momager.” She previously played a pageant mom to Willowdean in Dumplin’ (2018).
We’re still waiting to hear who will play the role of McCurdy, but we know it will be good.
