The actress best known for playing the eldest von Trapp child in The Sound of Music has died, age 73.
According to her official website, Charmian Carr passed away on Saturday from complications caused by dementia.
“Me and my family are so sad to have to post this message and will miss her dearly. She was such a nice, cheerful person,” wrote Steve Hughes, whose company manages Charmian’s website, in a statement.
The blue eyed beauty starred as Leisl von Trapp in the 1965 musical The Sound of Music, where she performed the iconic tune Sixteen Going on Seventeen.
Her only other acting role was starring in Evening Primrose, a TV musical with Anthony Perkins.
She went on to become a successful interior designer, and ran her own business: Charmain Carr Design while raising two daughters Jennifer and Emily.
Her celebrity customers included the late Michael Jackson.
‘It was his favorite film [The Sound of Music] and they shared a special friendship,” Mr Hughes said in his statement.
Charmian grew up in a talented family, as the daughter of an actress and a musician and orchestra leader.
She leaves behind her four siblings, two children and four grandchildren
