Macklemore’s ‘Same Love’ hits top charts after NRL controversy

The song was released in 2013 and is back at number one on iTunes in Australia.

There’s friction between Macklemore and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott following a tweet posted by Abbott.

The tweet suggested he was not on board for Macklemore to perform his hit song ‘Same Love’ which is about the issue of gay and lesbian rights.

However, Australian fans are still supporting the star by taking ‘Same Love’, a song released in 2013 straight to number one on iTunes.

The singer has responded on a US radio show stating: “I’m getting a lot of tweets from angry old white dudes in Australia.”

“It’s interesting because I am playing ‘Same Love’, and they are going through, right now, trying to legalise same sex marriage.”

Ben Haggerty (Macklemore) is set to sing the song regardless at the NRL final in Sydney, Australia tomorrow.

“Imma go harder, Imma love” he says.
