Lorde fans have had to wait patiently for a sophomore album from the Kiwi singer-songwriter, after the massive debut of her record Pure Heroine in 2013.
However, it looks like the ‘Royals’ hitmaker is gearing up to re-enter the spotlight in a big way, after a cryptic social media announcement appeared to hint at the release of her long-awaited second album.
On Twitter yesterday, the 20-year-old posted a simple “u hungry?” message out to her 4.5 million followers, later sharing a second tweet with a link to a website – imwaitingforit.com.
The link takes users to a simple homepage with a black background, and a video player taking centre stage on screen. The short clip provides just a glimpse of the Kiwi star as piano-heavy music can be heard playing in the background, before ending abruptly with the words ‘3.2.17 NYC’ and ‘3.3.17 NZ’ flashing up on screen.
Yesterday, the video featured Lorde sipping from a drink in a plastic takeaway cup in the backseat of a luxury car as the same music played. Today, the video changed to show the singer walking alongside a chain-link fence, with a cityscape lit up at dusk visible in the background.
Earlier today, Lorde took to Twitter yet again to hint fans would get a new tease every day, writing: “you’ll wanna come back here at 8am nz / 2pm nyc for a couple of days..”
The original video clip also ran as a brief advertisement on Kiwi screens this week.
Rumours are running wild that the mysterious campaign points to the release of Lorde’s second album, with the news that she is scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live on March 11 – days after the 3.2.17 and 3.3.17 dates teased on the website.
NME also recently reported that Lorde’s label Republic Records recorded an agenda marked for February 21, which listed ‘Lorde (Confidential Title) 3/7’.

Lorde is also scheduled to perform on SNL soon after the mysterious dates teased on her social media.
The singer has released limited original material since her debut album in 2013. She featured on hit track ‘Magnets’ by Brit electronic duo Disclosure and created ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, the soundtrack for which she also curated.
This isn’t the first time Lorde has teased fans with news of her long-awaited second album. She’s been sharing glimpses of her studio sessions with producer Jack Antonoff and also tweeted she “whispered the album name” to her mother last year.
Earlier in January, Rolling Stone’s website listed Lorde’s upcoming album as part of their 20 most anticipated pop albums of 2016.
