As Kiwi pop superstar Lorde threw her arms joyfully around producer Jack Antonoff on an Auckland street, awestruck fans couldn’t help but wonder if this match made in musical heaven had finally become more than just friends.

Their fond embrace on the way to dinner on Auckland’s waterfront showed just how close the two have become after more than a year working on Lorde’s hit album Melodrama. But despite being touchy feely, the pair insist they are just best buddies.

The pair with record label executive Justin Warren.

In the wake of gossip following his recent split from Girls star Lena Dunham, 31, after five years together, Jack chose to deny a relationship with Lorde, while the “Green Light” singer has said they are “very obsessed with each other on a creative level and as buds”.

Needless to say, Lorde, 21, was thrilled to welcome Jack, 33, to her hometown as soon as he flew in with his band Bleachers to play a support show for Paramore at the Spark Arena.

Making up a table for three at the swanky Italian restaurant Amano last week was record label executive Justin Warren, a constant companion of the pop icon.
