American Idol usually puts the spotlight on undiscovered talent, but this week the show got a surprise visit from one of the biggest names in rap and hip-hop: Kanye West!
The ‘FourFiveSeconds’ rapper hit the stage unannounced to perform a rendition of his 2005 mega-hit ‘Gold Digger’ in front of judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr and Keith Urban.
Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian was also there watching from behind the wings, and naturally, the selfie-obsessed reality star captured it all on camera.
She took to Instagram to post a series of photos from the American Idol camera monitors, showing judges Jennifer and Harry Connick grinning ear-to-ear at the impromptu performance.
Kim shared this photo with the caption “SURPRISE!”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kanye was in San Francisco (where American Idol was holding auditions) for a performance at a Democratic National Committee event in front of President Barack Obama. Afterwards, the 38-year-old headed over to Idol to pull off his surprise gig.
